From Mangueta to the beach of Cortinas where many famous navigable waterways and sources of fresh water can be found, one beach follows another, each with different characteristics, but with one common denominator: beaches of clear water and fine sand with a relaxed atmosphere even in high season. It is easy to see people who bathe in the mud that the waterways create in the area close to the cliffs as a form of skin therapy. Naturism is also frequently practised on the beaches further downstream. Mangueta: This beach is situated to the east of Caños de Meca, between Palmar (Vejer) and the beach of Zahora. It was very famous for having a busy beachside bar which the young enjoyed as much in the night as in the day. This is a beach without pretensions. Its surroundings are formed by crop growing areas known as Tunar. It is reached by a road which turns off from the streets of Caños de Meca, going over the bridge over the San Ambrosio. Zahora: This is a beautiful beach situated to the east of the famous Trafalgar lighthouse between the beach of Mangueta and the said lighthouse. It has a very special beachside bar where spectacular sunsets can be observed. In the surroundings a resort of house-chalets can be found, most of them to rent, with badly developed roads difficult to navigate by car. It is a beach of fine sand perfect for activities such as windsurfing, sailing and occasionally surfing or bodyboarding.![]() ![]() Marisucia: This is a pretty and small beach situated between Trafalgar Lighthouse and Laja beach (of the apartments), right on the main road leading to the lighthouse. In the surroundings you can find pine woods and a large sand dune. There are differing beachside bars on the said street where you can have a drink or something to eat in the day or also at night. |

Hotels, hostels and apartments in Caños de Meca Costa de la Luz IT - Spiagge di Cadice Costa de la Luz DE - Strände von Cadiz Costa de la Luz NE - Stranden van Cadiz La Laja: This is located behind the apartment blocks of the Avda de Trafalgar, between the beaches of Marisucia and Los Castillejos. This beach is not recommended for swimming or sports as it is uncomfortable and full of rocks. However, we can postively say that you can enjoy a great view of the lighthouse and a nice stroll here. Castillejos (El Pirata): This is the beach in the centre of the waterways, located right at the heart of the village, between the beaches of Laja (apartments) and the coves situated at the end of the Avenida de Trafalgar. It has all the usual facilities such as public conveniences, emergency services and also beachside bars, bars and restaurants for food and refreshments. It also has fine sand, sandy coves and clear waters. It could be said that the excellent beach is Caños de Meca together with the coves located a little further to the east. It is also worth noting that there are small caves where refuge can be taken from the sun. Calas de los Castillejos: These are small and tranquil coves located between the beach of Castillejos (Pirata) and the nudist area to the east where several small cliffs can be found. It is here that the first nudist beaches are found. Nudist Beach: This is a sandy beach with small rocky areas of great scenic beauty where naturism is practised. It is located between the coves of los Castillejos and the beach of Cortinas (Waterways of fresh water). Its waters are crystalline and the surroundings green. Cortinas – Waterways: It is this beach located most eastern of Caños de Meca which divides into several parts which you have to visit to see the real waterways of fresh water which are in abundance around the cliff. Suitable shoes are recommended, appropriate for getting wet, descending rocks as well as walking along the said beach at low tide. It is in this area that the pretty cliffs start to get steep. And also – take care with the sea! It is possible to get cut off from the land! Between the one and the other of the coves there are small, solitary beaches with some caves and large blocks of stone. After Cortinas, the path becomes more and more difficult. It is possible to reach a small cove (the green cove), but at this point the possibility of continuing on foot ends and going any further involves swimming or a boat. |
