Dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, the temple was built over the old mosque, in the times of Fernando III the Saint. However, in the 15th century, construction of the Gothic sanctuary was begun to house the Holy Face, which instigated pilgrimages to the temple. During the 16th century, Andrés de Valdelvira was charged with reform work and left a characteristic Renaissance mark on it. It was declared to by an Historic-Artistic Monument. The Baroque façade is by Eufrasio López de Rojas. The interior contains 17 chapels, among which the Main chapel was decorated by Juan de Aranda in the 17th century.
