Beaches of Tarifa - Costa de la Luz, CadizTarifa is Europe’s most southern city and overlooks two seas. It is located on the Costa de la Luz at only 14 km from Africa and is separated by the Straits of Gibraltar.
Known as “the wind capital”, it is one of the best places in the world to practise windsurfing and is currently the headquarters of the world windsurfing championship.
The beaches of Tarifa stretch almost 40km in length and are ideal for windsurfing and scuba diving because of their clear, shallow waters. |

Playa de Bolonia  This is one of the best beaches on the coast of Cadiz and is famous for its large sand dune. It is 4km long with golden sand, crystal clear waters and is also an area for nudists. The ruins of Baelo Claudia are at the foot of the sand dune. Playa de Valdevaqueros  This beach is famous for its water sports such as windsurfing and fly-surf. It is 5.5km in length and its most outstanding features are its sand dunes of fine, golden sand that resemble mountains. The beach offers a wide range of services. It is a true paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Hardcore surfers take to the waves at great speeds on their boards with brightly coloured sails. Recently a new variation of windsurfing has emerged, known as fly surfing or kite surfing, where the sail has been replaced by a kite.  Although this sport was designed as an easier alternative to windsurfing its main advantage is that it can be practised on days when there is less wind making it great to watch. Sometimes the wind makes the flysurfers fly above the waves but seconds later they are back skimming the water as usual. Playa de Los Lances  This 7km beach of fine golden sand stretches from the beach of Valdevaqueros to Tarifa. Windsurfers and fans of the sport from all over the world congregate in this spot which has been declared a Paraje Natural by the environmental council for its ecological wealth. |
