This large 15C gothic church, renovated in the Renaissance and baroque styles, stands in the lively Calle San Ildefonso on the site of a former mosque of which remains an interior courtyard, the Orange Tree Patio and some arches, all of which are incredibly beautiful. Also note the Visigothic calendar on the shaft of a column. The interior has three aisle and is dominated by a monumental plateresque retable illustrating scenes from the Passion sculpted with great finesse. The lateral chapels, such as the Chapel of Christ of the Martyrs, contain some beautiful retables behind finely detailed 16C plateresque gates. |
The sacristy contains a collection of valuable silverware including a processional rear side panel from the Renaissance period by Alfaro. |
