Alhambra de Granada

(The Alhambra of Granada Virtual Visit)

Granada, designed for strolling about.

Corral del Carbón
Tales of the unexpected beauty of Granada have been told a thousand times. None of this is surprising due to the Granada’s Moorish style monuments, streets, squares and fountains and the spectacular Alhambra of Granada on high watching over the entire city.

Alcaicería
Granada is a city designed for strolling about, discovering narrow streets, and casually taking in the atmosphere and the history while gazing at it’s impressive monuments and particular Moorish architecture.

Granada is reputed for it’s beauty, but once you have actually seen it you will not be able to believe how beautiful it is, nor forget it; Granada will seduce you entirely.

The Alhambra Palace, World Heritage.

Alhambra view from San Nicolás viewpoint in Albayzín district.

The Alhambra of Granada, residence of the Nazarit Kings, is a spectacular Arabic palace which combines architecture and nature to create a real paradise on earth. Palaces, gardens, woods, fountains, towers and walls are all brought together perfectly before the splendid backdrop of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to create one of the most beautiful monuments in the world. It is a must-see and one of the most visited monuments in Spain.

The famuos lions fountain.

Here you will also find the glorious XIX Century Carmen de los Mátires gardens, organised into numerous terraces, where you can stroll about and enjoy some of best views of the city of Granada.

Mirador de San Nicolás: al fondo la AlhambraFrom the viewpoint at the terrace of the San Nicolás Church, the view of the red and ochre coloured Alambra perched on the green hill is spectacular. In the distance you can make out the peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Other visits of interest in Granada

Granada´s CathedralGranada has other monuments too, and although they are often eclipsed by the Alhambra they do merit spending some more time in the city to visit them. The Cathedral and the Capilla Real, the San Jerónimo and la Cartuja monestaries, the Dar Al-horra Arabic Palace and the Chapiz Moorish houses are just some of the many monuments which make this city so beautiful.

Albayzín QuarterTwo of the most interesting districts of Granada are the Albacyín and Realejo, with their strong Moorish influences, narrow alleyways, whitewashed houses and splendid views. In these areas you will see the best examples of architecture specific to Granada: ‘el Carmen’, a type of patio bringing the house, garden and terrace together all at once.

Rue of Darro.Further down in the Albayzín district you will come across a street with a special charm, Calle Del Darro, which starts at the Plaza de Santa Ana and ends at the Paseo de los Tristes. Taking this street you will leave the modern city behind you and the views will change dramatically.

Sacromonte quarterThe Sacromonte hill rises up next to the Albaycín in front of the Generalife. This is the gypsy district and is partly abandoned but still has some taverns where flamenco shows take place.

Isabel la Católica squareBut Granada is more than simply a pittoresque old town, it is a modern city with numerous shops and businesses. It is also a university town, with one of the largest universities in Andalusia, and it offers a large and varied selection of venues for going out. Granada has it all : beauty, culture and fun.

Paseo de los Tristes.Don’t forget to try some tapas in Granada as the place stands out from other Spanish cities in that they tend to hand out these tasty snacks for free when you order a drink.
