Fuenteheridos is a village with charm enclaved in a mountainous area inside the Parque Natural Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche, whose name originates from the Leonese “Fonte”, spring, and “Ferido”, the source of the irrigation. One of the most curious explanations for the name is that during the battles of the reconquest the casualties were cared for with water from the Fuente de los Doce Caños.
With its priveleged climate and ancestral scenery which is exceptionally well preserved this region has been since long ago a place for retreat and meditation. Nowadays the mountains receive many visitors who are looking for tranquility and progressively increasingly are interested in the rich nature and culture as well as its top quality gastronomy, especially with its meats, hams and delicious indigenous dishes.
The scenery created by the chestnut tree attracted by the golden shades which are substituted by green shades create the most photogenic views against the light of the year. In fact, in Fuenteheridos, where scents and colours live together in harmony, the visitor feels at one with nature.
This is why it is an ideal area for lovers of active tourism where you can do things such as hiking, horse riding, photographic trails, mushroom picking, observing the flora and fauna and many other activities.
Fuenteheridos is one of the best conserved mountain villages in the area, which has, for its rich architectural heritage, been declared a Historic-Artistic Site . As its principal religious building the Parish Church of Espíritu Santo stands out with its precious 17th century tower.
